CANDLE CARE GUIDE

Get the most out of your candle ✨

  • First burn matters: Allow the wax to melt across the entire surface on the first burn (usually 3-4 hours for a 75-80mm diameter vessel). This helps prevent “tunnelling” (see below) and keeps your candle burning evenly.

  • Trim your wicks: Keep wicks trimmed to 5 mm before each burn. This prevents sooting, mushrooming (see below), and overly large flames.

  • Burn time per session: Burn 4 hours maximum at a time. This helps maintain the candle’s performance without overheating the glass.

  • Safety first: Always place your candle on a stable, heat-resistant surface. Keep away from children, pets, drafts, curtains, and flammable items.

  • Extinguishing: Gently blow out or use a candle snuffer. Avoid putting the lid on immediately while the candle is still hot, as this can trap smoke inside.

  • Stop burning when low: Discontinue use once about 10 mm of wax remains at the bottom to protect the vessel and surface underneath.

Natural features of 100% soy wax 🌿

Every one of my candles is hand-poured in small batches, using 100% soy wax. Unlike mass-produced paraffin candles, soy is a natural product — and sometimes it shows its little quirks. These are completely normal and actually proof you’ve got the real deal:

  • Rough or bumpy tops after burning: Soy wax can cool unevenly, leaving a textured surface. It doesn’t affect performance at all and is a natural characteristic of pure soy.

  • Frosting (white, crystal-like patterns on the glass or wax): This is just soy wax returning to its natural state. It’s harmless, won’t affect burn quality, and is even considered part of its charm.

  • Tiny oil beads on the surface: You may notice tiny beads or a light sheen of oil on the surface of your candle, especially in warm weather or after long storage. This is called wax sweating and happens because soy wax is a natural product that sometimes releases excess fragrance oil. Simply blot it gently with a tissue if you like — it won’t affect the candle’s performance. In fact, it shows your candle is richly fragranced and made with real soy wax.

  • Colour changes: Soy wax can naturally change colour over time — sometimes early on, depending on the fragrance oil used. Oils with citrus notes or vanillin (commonly found in warm, sweet fragrances) are especially known for causing the wax to deepen in colour. This is totally normal and doesn’t affect how your candle burns or smells. In some cases, the metal wick holders may also take on a slightly rusty appearance due to these oils — again, nothing to worry about and proof that your candle is scented with real, high-quality fragrance oils.

  • Slight imperfections: Every candle is hand-poured, so you may notice tiny variations in fill level or finish. Think of it as part of the beauty of owning a handmade product — no two candles are ever exactly alike.

  • Tunnelling is when the candle burns straight down the middle and leaves a hard “ring” of unmelted wax around the sides of the jar. Once this ring forms, the flame doesn’t have enough heat to melt through it on later burns. Instead, it keeps tunnelling deeper, eventually leaving high walls of wax that can trap the flame, reduce oxygen flow, and even cause the candle to extinguish itself. Giving your candle a full melt to the ensure on every burn ensures it burns evenly from top to bottom. Don’t worry — it’s not dangerous, it just means you won’t get the full life of your candle.
  • Mushrooming is when the wick develops a little ball of carbon on the end. It looks a bit like a tiny mushroom, and while it’s harmless, it can cause the flame to flicker, smoke, or burn less cleanly. A quick trim before each burn keeps your candle performing at its best.

Final tips for enjoyment 💛

  • Store candles in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight to protect their scent and colour.

  • Always let the glass cool completely before touching or moving it.

  • Reuse or recycle your jar once the candle is finished — they make wonderful planters, pen holders, or storage jars.

✨ Each candle is a little piece of art — natural, handcrafted, and unique. Treat it with care and it will reward you with hours of beautiful fragrance and glow.
