Why we are drawn to flowers: The symbolism behind Blooming Marvellous

by | Mar 27, 2025 | My life as an artist | 6 comments

Have you ever noticed how magical flowers are?? They brighten our surroundings, lift our moods, and remind us to pause and appreciate the present moment. But beyond their beauty, flowers carry deep symbolism, representing joy, resilience, new beginnings, and the fleeting nature of life itself.

In my Blooming Marvellous collection, I didn’t set out to paint specific flowers. Instead, I wanted to capture the essence of what flowers make us feel—vibrant, uplifted, and connected to the beauty around us.

Even in their abstract form, these blooms speak to something universal. Let’s explore why we are drawn to flowers and floral art, and the emotions behind this collection.

The Emotional Power of Flowers

Flowers evoke emotions without words. Think about how a single bloom can hold so much meaning, whether it’s a celebration, a memory, or a small act of kindness. My goal with Blooming Marvellous was to bottle up that feeling of delight and spontaneity so that every time you look at these paintings, you experience a little spark of joy.

Just like in nature, each piece in this collection is bursting with movement, colour, and life. There’s a playful energy in the way the brushstrokes flow, sometimes soft and delicate, other times bold and expressive. Every petal-like shape and vibrant colour reflects a moment of freedom, a breath of fresh air, a reminder that beauty is all around us.

What Abstract Blooms Represent

Since the flowers in this collection are purely intuitive and abstract, they don’t belong to any one species – they belong to you, the viewer. Each person might see something different:

  • To some, these blooms might represent growth and transformation, a reminder of how we keep evolving.
  • To others, they might embody happiness and playfulness, bringing a burst of energy into a space.
  • For those going through change, they could be a symbol of hope and resilience—a reminder that, just like flowers, we bloom in our own time.

Unlike real flowers, these won’t wither. They’ll stay in full bloom forever, bringing colour and joy into your home every day.

Why Flowers Are a Universal Language

Flowers have been woven into human culture for centuries. Across different traditions and belief systems, they symbolise love, renewal, and the cycles of life. But even without history or tradition, we all instinctively respond to them.

Have you ever been given flowers at a meaningful moment? Maybe someone surprised you with a bouquet when you needed cheering up, or you picked wildflowers as a child, feeling the thrill of their colour and scent. Even if you haven’t had those experiences, chances are, you’ve felt something shift inside you just by seeing a field of flowers in full bloom.

That’s the feeling I wanted to capture with Blooming Marvellous—that natural, effortless joy.

Bringing Abstract Florals Into Your Home

The beauty of floral art, especially abstract florals, is that it fits into any space. It’s not just about decorating a wall; it’s about creating an atmosphere.

Here’s how these paintings can bring something special into your home:

  • A pop of colour and positivity – Whether your space is neutral or already full of colour, an abstract floral piece adds energy and warmth.
  • A sense of connection – Even in an urban setting, floral art brings nature indoors, making a space feel fresh and alive.
  • A reminder to pause and appreciate beauty – Life moves fast, but a piece of joyful art can act as a visual cue to slow down and take a deep breath.

Because these paintings aren’t tied to a specific flower or form, they remain timeless and open to interpretation. You get to decide what they mean to you.

What Do You See in Blooming Marvellous?

Art is personal, and I love hearing how different people connect with my paintings. Some see wildflowers, others see dancing petals in the wind, and some just feel a rush of happiness when they look at the colours and movement.

So tell me – what do you see? What emotions do these blooms bring up for you? Let me know in the comments below. I’d love to hear your thoughts.

And if you’re feeling drawn to a particular piece, you can explore the Blooming Marvellous collection HERE. I’ve also included photos of all of them below.
