Alcohol ink for beginners tutorial
As you will see in this simple alcohol ink for beginners tutorial, alcohol inks are just fun and mesmerising!
You don’t need a whole lot of colours to start and I know I have heaps but… I have been building up my collection for years and I also use them during my studio workshops (or I wouldn’t have this much lol).
So just get a few colours you love, and colours that mix well to start with. To be honest, even when I create muddy browns and greens, they still look cool (that only works for me with alcohol inks though, no other medium!!).
Watch the video and leave me a comment to let me know if you enjoyed it, or got inspired!!

List of supplies:
- Tim Holtz Alcohol Ink (Pistachio, Pool, Salmon)
- Pinata Rich Gold (nicer than the Tim Holtz gold mixative!)
- Ranger blending solution
- Yupo paper I’ve cut down in half (I’m using lightweight because that’s good enough for practicing but get the heavyweight for better results!)
- A straw and… that’s all!
- Oh and the Solvol magic soap that removes everything including ink from your hands!!
Oh it’s so hard to capture the metallic shine but believe, it’s so pretty!!
Well you have inspired me once again! I haven’t played with my alcohol inks in a very long time. But watching your video, has once again given me the bug! Lol. So i will be digging them out and going to town! Thanks!
So happy to hear Gayle! Dust off your alcohol inks and play š Yipee!!
i never really knew how to use these inks – i have a couple but i will now get the blending fluid and have a play. Thanks for another great demo to brighton a dull wet british morning!!
I’m so happy to hear this little tutorial has inspired you to give it a go! It doesn’t matter if you only have a couple, it’s still fun to start with š If there are any other tutorials you’d like me to do, feel free to send suggestions xx
