How to mix colours & create yummy colour palettes!

by | My life as an artist | 4 comments

I don’t know about you but sometimes, I find colours that go well together without batting an eyelid and sometimes, it’s hard to know which ones really complement each other!

As an artist, I have some favourite combination of colours that I often use, for example, I love:

– turquoise, magenta and purple
– turquoise and lime green
– red, orange and yellow (obvious but it just works!)
– magenta and aqua greens and blues

I have discovered unusual colour combinations simply by trial and error or luck over my years as a painter. For example, I never thought turquoise and browns would make a nice couple but I love them together in my painting Mountain Lakes below šŸ˜‰

But maybe like you, I sometimes want to try something new and original and want to see which colours mix well…

Well, you don’t need any fancy tools and I am happy to let you know I found a website that is very useful to create colour palettes! Yay! I was very excited when I stumbled upon it šŸ™‚
The site lets you create your own colour palettes so you can safely play around with colour without wasting your time (or paint)! You can even save them, revisit them later on, share them with others and also browse through other people’s palettes (and more).

These colour combinations are so delicious (to me!) and there are so many more I love on the site that I don’t think I need to create my own lol Actually, there are over 3,355,035 user-created color palettes already!!

This is a great tool to use for mixing colours if you are an artist or even if you want to create a funky colour scheme in your home šŸ˜‰

Now, why don’t you try it out for yourself here?

Let me know if you find this useful and if you have any other tips for creating yummy colour combinations, and which ones are your favourites!

Love and sunshine to you!

Mimi Bondi.
